Death Notice: "Another old colonist, Mr. Henry Garnet Soilleux, at one time well known in banking circles died yesterday morning at his residence, Corona, Camberwell. Mr. Soilleux commenced his banking experience in London with the firm of Rogers and Olding, and was afterwards in the banking house of Smith, Payne, and Smith. In 1852 he came to Melbourne in the ship Frances Henty, and joined the Bank of Australasia in that year. He was stationed at Ballarat during the busiest and most exciting period of the "diggings" there, and when the rush had to some extent abated he paid a visit to the old country in 1857. He returned to Melbourne the same year in the ship James Baines, and then joined the Bank of Victoria. He represented that institution at Yackandandah for some time, and was subsequently at Mortlake and other branches in the Western district. In his position as bank inspector he traversed the greater portion of Victoria, and made himself well acquainted with the requirements and capabilities of the districts he visited. In 1889 he went to London on business in connection with the Bank of Victoria, and on his return in 1890 he resigned his position in the bank and retired into private life. Deceased leaves a widow and an only son, Dr. Garnet Soilleux."
