At one time was in Oregon with Thomas Powell Johns and his wife.
He served in Africa during the Boer War in C Battery RCFA and received the Queen's South Africa Medal with clasps for Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal and Rhodesia. In the US he appears in the 1895 Oregon State
Census as a member of the Edward R M Johns family and served with the Oregon Volunteers B Battery as a Private and Corporal from 18 Jul 1898-20 Oct 1898 (Spanish-American War). In 1915 he belonged to the 22nd
Saskatchewan Light Horse (Canadian Active Militia) and went on to serve in the 143rd Canadian Expeditionary Force in Canada and England as a Lieutenant. Also the 24th Reserve Battalion; 101st Battalion; 100th Battalion,
British Regiment : 1 Depot; Western Ontario Regimental Depot; and on Conducting Duty to France from 25 Mar 1918 to 22 Sep 1918.

Believed to have been a builder of log cabins.

JOHNS - On December 29, 1971, J C M Johns, Captain, age 99 years; born in England and had been a resident of North Saanich, BC for the past 57 years, late residence 1670 Lands End Road. Survived by nieces and nephews.
Mr Johns served in the Spanish-American War with the Oregon Light Infantry, served with C Battalion RCFA in Africa during the Boer War and served with the 143rd Battery during the first World War. Services will be held in
the Sands Funeral Chapel of Roses, Sidney, BC on Tuesday January 4, 1972, Cremation

Ellen Johns (dau of ERMJ) mentioned to Marjorie Mackelcan Baker that her Uncle Jack lived near the water at Lands End and she and her husband while visiting, were able to dock their boat in front of his house.
